Tribute & Message From The Family

Marjorie J. Stephens, 87, died August 24, 2012. Born in Greenville, FL, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Alice McLeod Cook. Her childhood and teen years were spent in Vero Beach, Florida, where she met her husband-to-be when he was stationed at the naval air station there. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Cdr. Walter E. Stephens (USNR-Ret.), in February of this year, as well as her sister, Mrs. Elson R. Smith (Delores) of Vero Beach.
Marjorie's life was spent as a military wife, relocating to various bases in the United States and Morocco, at the Navy's 'request'. She was a fanatic bridge player no matter at what base they were stationed, but first, and foremost, a wife and mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Heitlinger (former son-in-law, Art); son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Stephens; grandchildren, Kelly Dennison (Jonathan) and Scott Stephens, all of Columbia.
Interment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery will be private at a date to be determined.
