COLUMBIA – Thomas Brown Pollard, Jr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Funeral service and burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2011. The service will be officiated by Colonel James Michael Brown, retired United States Army Chaplain.
Mr. Pollard was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 24, 1933. He was a son of the late Thomas Brown Pollard and Hilda A. Jolley Pollard. Mr. Pollard was a commissioned officer through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of South Carolina in 1954 and served in the United States Navy on active duty in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet from 1954 to 1956, where he was a Gunnery Officer on the USS Vermillion, and in the ready reserve from 1956 through 1967. Mr. Pollard earned his A.B. degree from the University of South Carolina, and subsequently his L.L.B. degree from University of South Carolina Law School. He was a member of the Nexsen Pruet Jacobs and Pollard Law Firm for 46 years prior to his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar since 1959. Mr. Pollard was an avid sportsman and conservationist.
Surviving are Anne Gillespie; daughter, Suzanne Pollard Narbona and her husband Miguel of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Patricia and Miguel Angel Narbona; sister, Mary Ann Pollack (Alan); brother, William A. Pollard. He was predeceased by his brother, John Pollard. The family will receive friends following the Friday service at the home of Anne Gillespie, 733 Kipling Drive, Columbia, SC 29205.
